Lyric tenor Nils Georg Nilsen hails from Oslo, Norway and had his debut in March, 2012 at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall, New York. In 2018, Nils Georg performed at numerous locations, including, singing in the Norwegian Opera, with the Israeli Opera in Tel Aviv, at the Málaga Clásica festival in Spain, with the Reza i Regazzi in Zürich, and at the Ravinia Festival, RSMI, USA.
In addition of being professor of Voice at the Galamian Accademy of Music, Nils Georg is a sought-after tenor and has several engagements scheduled in 2019 both in Norway and abroad. Among others, Mozart Requiem with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra, Rossinis Stabat Mater and Handels Messiah with Drammen Symphony Orchestra, as well as various recitals and festivals.
Within opera, Nils Georg’s experiences span from his roles as Elvino (La Sunnambula), Aumônier (Dialogues of the Carmelites), Rinucco (Gianni Schicci), Tinca (Il Tabarro), Tom Rakewell (The Rake’s Progress), Torquemada (L’heure Espagnole). He also often performs in concerts productions with scenes and arias from the operatic program.
Nils Georg has been an oratorio soloist in Carmina Burana, Messa di Gloria (Puccini), Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem, Christus of Mendelssohn and Bach’s Christmas oratorio. He has also been a tenor soloist with the dance company, Dances Patrelle, performed in New York (Gilbert and Sullivan the Ballet) in the spring of 2011, 2012, and 2013.
Nils Georg is an expert in art songs and lied and has recorded a CD with the Spanish pianist Josu de Solaun, singing Schumann´s Liederkreis op. 24 and 39 and Dichterliebe for the American lable Centaur Records. The CD is expected to be released in 2019. He has also performed numerous concerts in Europe and North America.
As a young tenor, he took part in the Norwegian Academy of Music’s talent program, Young Musicians. At the age of 13 Nils Georg sang a duet with Dame Kiri te Kanawa in Oslo Spectrum. The concert was recorded and broadcast by the Norwegian Broadcasting System (NRK). Nils Georg has been the winner of both the Solveig’s Award in the Edvard Grieg Competition, the Audience Award during the festival LidalNorth on numerous occasions, and has also been a winner of the Youth Music Competition in Norway.
Nils Georg was a high performing graduate student receiving top grades from the Norwegian Academy of Music and he also holds a Masters degree from the prestigious Manhattan School of Music.
Nils Georg is currently a professor of voice at the international music academy Academia Galamian in Málaga, Spain.
